De Los Santos Medical Center recently served as the official medical partner of Under Armour Southeast Asia’s 3×3 basketball tournament held at the Titan Love Court in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig last April 28 to 29.
Well aware of the intensely physical and fast-paced nature of the 3-on-3 game, the medical team was quick to respond to incidents involving players who experienced cramps, cuts and sprains; as well as one that was diagnosed as a possible concussion. The team was led by Sports Medicine specialist Oliver Wendell Lozano, MD and included physical therapists from the hospital’s Department of Sports and Rehabilitation Services. No major injuries were recorded during the two-day event.
Bounty B, comprised of Ernest John Felicida, Michael Malonzo, Andrew Velasco and Alex Visser, won the Manila leg of the Under-18 tourney. Meanwhile, the team of Rhyann Amsali, Russel Bagauisan, Winderlich Coyoca and Harvey Pagsanjan (Bounty A) was named first runner-up. A combination of the two teams – in the form of Amsali, Malonzo, Pagsanjan and Velasco – was later chosen to represent the Philippines at the FIBA 3×3 U18 Asia Cup 2017 in Cyberjaya, Malaysia last May 26 to 28. The foursome finished 7th place (out of 16 teams) at the competition’s end.
With 3-on-3 basketball now officially named as an olympic sport, tournaments like Under Armour’s 3×3 have turned into legitimate hunting grounds for the future torchbearers of national pride.
For this reason, De Los Santos Med remains committed to promoting the importance of sports medicine and safeguarding the physical health and well-being of our country’s future hoops heroes during these athletic events.
De Los Santos Med’s Rehabilitation Medicine and Sports Center is located at the 2nd floor of the hospital’s main building. The specialty clinic is open Mondays to Sundays, 7AM to 6PM, and on holidays, 8AM to 4PM.
